How to use

  1. Type or paste any number into the input slot (e.g. 255, 0xFF, 0b11111111, or 0o377).
  2. Select the input base (Auto-detect, Binary, Octal, Decimal, or Hexadecimal).
  3. Select your target operation: All Bases Overview, To Binary, To Octal, To Decimal, or To Hexadecimal.
  4. Toggle 4-bit grouping or uppercase hex casing according to your preference.
  5. Click 'Run' or press Ctrl+Enter to convert the number instantly.

Example

Convert 255 to all radix bases

Input

255

Edge cases

Arbitrary BigInt numbers

Utilizes BigInt arithmetic to convert numbers beyond 2^53 - 1 (JavaScript MAX_SAFE_INTEGER) without precision truncation.

Negative integers

Preserves negative signs properly across all base notations (-255 -> -FF, -1111 1111).

Prefix notation auto-detection

Automatically recognizes 0x for hexadecimal, 0b for binary, and 0o for octal numbers.

How it works

  1. Normalizes input digits by stripping spaces, commas, and underscores.
  2. Detects the source radix or applies the user-selected input base.
  3. Parses the input string into an arbitrary-precision BigInt integer.
  4. Converts the integer into base 2, base 8, base 10, base 16, and base 36 strings.
  5. Optionally groups binary digits into 4-bit nibbles for visual readability.

Frequently asked questions

Why is BigInt used instead of standard numbers?

Standard JavaScript numbers use 64-bit floating point IEEE 754 format, which loses integer precision above 9,007,199,254,740,991. Using BigInt guarantees exact bit-for-bit math regardless of how large the number is.

How does hexadecimal relate to binary?

Each hexadecimal digit corresponds exactly to 4 binary bits (a nibble). For example, hex 'F' equals binary '1111', and hex 'A' equals '1010'.

Are computed numbers sent over the network?

No. All number conversions execute locally on your device within isolated Web Workers.
