Edge cases

HTML entity decoding and tag stripping

When parsing existing HTML tables to CSV, inner formatting tags like <span>, <b>, or <a> are stripped while HTML entities (e.g. &amp;, &lt;, &quot;) are decoded into plain text characters.

Spreadsheet formula injection protection

When extracting data from untrusted HTML web pages into CSV, cell values beginning with '=', '+', '-', or '@' are prefixed with an apostrophe to protect against macro execution in spreadsheet programs.

Irregular cell counts in HTML tables

HTML tables with merged cells or uneven row definitions are normalized by collecting all cells per <tr> into contiguous rows for consistent CSV generation.

How it works

  1. Parses input CSV rows via PapaParse or extracts <tr> and <td>/<th> nodes from HTML strings.
  2. Generates semantic HTML with proper <thead>, <tbody>, and indentation or minified format.
  3. Sanitizes spreadsheet formulas and HTML entity characters where appropriate.
  4. Executes entirely in a client-side Web Worker without transmitting document content.

Frequently asked questions

Can I add Bootstrap or Tailwind CSS classes to the generated HTML table?

Yes. Set the 'Table CSS Class' option to any class list (such as 'table table-bordered table-striped' or 'w-full text-left border') to automatically inject the class attribute into the <table> tag.

What happens if my CSV contains HTML code?

By default, 'Escape HTML in Cells' converts characters like < and > into &lt; and &gt;, ensuring cell content is rendered safely as visible text rather than executed as browser markup.

Is my HTML or CSV table sent to a server?

No. All parsing and formatting happens 100% locally in your web browser. No text or data ever leaves your device.
