About this tool, examples & FAQ

Convert text into ASCII and Unicode code points across standard notations: U+XXXX, hexadecimal, decimal numbers, JavaScript escape sequences (\uXXXX and \u{XXXXX}), and HTML numeric entities. Convert code point lists back into UTF-8 text with 100% client-side privacy.

How to use

  1. Select your target operation: Text to Code Points or Code Points to Text.
  2. Choose your desired output notation format (Unicode U+XXXX, Decimal, Hexadecimal, JavaScript escape, or HTML entity).
  3. Select the token delimiter (space, comma, newline, or none).
  4. Paste your text or code points into the input pane and click Run (or press Ctrl/Cmd + Enter).
  5. Click Swap at any time to reverse the conversion direction.

Edge cases

Supplementary Astral Plane Characters (Emoji & Historical Scripts)

Characters with code points above U+FFFF (such as emoji 🚀 U+1F680) span surrogate pairs in UTF-16. This tool accurately identifies and extracts the singular 21-bit Unicode code point.

Lone Surrogate Code Points (U+D800 - U+DFFF)

High and low surrogate code points are reserved strictly for UTF-16 encoding mechanisms. Attempting to convert lone surrogate code points returns a descriptive validation error.

Flexible Delimiter Ingestion

When decoding code points to text, the parser flexibly accepts space-separated, comma-separated, newline-separated, or prefix-tagged notation (U+, 0x, &#, \u).

How it works

  1. Iterates characters by Unicode code point boundaries using ECMAScript iteration protocols, properly preventing surrogate pair splitting.
  2. Maps each scalar value to its corresponding hexadecimal, decimal, or escape sequence representation according to the chosen options.
  3. Decodes arbitrary code point notations by tokenizing numeric values and invoking String.fromCodePoint.
  4. Executes in dedicated web worker threads without transmitting data over the network.

Frequently asked questions

What is a Unicode code point?

A code point is an integer value assigned to a character or symbol within the Unicode codespace, ranging from 0 (U+0000) up to 1,114,111 (U+10FFFF).

What is the difference between ASCII and Unicode?

ASCII defines 128 characters (0 to 127) covering standard English letters, digits, and control codes. Unicode is a superset that includes ASCII in its first 128 code points and extends to over 149,000 characters covering all world languages and symbols.

Are my characters or strings sent to any server?

No. All parsing and conversions run purely client-side in your browser's Web Worker runtime.
