How to use

  1. Paste a YAML document into the input editor.
  2. Choose the indentation width and whether object keys should be sorted.
  3. Run the formatter; syntax errors are reported without producing misleading output.
  4. Copy or download the validated YAML, or send it to a compatible tool.

Format a mapping

Edge cases

Aliases

Alias expansion is bounded to protect browser resources.

Comments

Comments are retained during normal formatting; sorting keys rebuilds the data model and therefore removes comments.

Multiple documents

This version accepts one YAML document per run rather than a multi-document stream.

How it works

  1. Parses the document with YAML 1.2 rules and collects syntax diagnostics.
  2. Preserves the document structure and comments during ordinary formatting.
  3. When sorting is requested, converts through a bounded data model, recursively sorts mapping keys, and serializes the result.

Frequently asked questions

Is YAML uploaded?

No. Parsing and formatting run locally in a Web Worker.

Will formatting remove my comments?

Normal formatting preserves comments. Enabling key sorting rebuilds mappings and removes comments, so leave sorting off when comments matter.

What does validation check?

It checks whether the text parses as YAML. It does not validate application-specific fields or a separate schema.
