Edge cases

Nested XML structures

Nested child tags are flattened using dot notation (e.g. user.address.city) so all attributes and child properties map into distinct spreadsheet columns.

Spreadsheet formula injection protection

Data cells beginning with characters like '=', '+', '-', or '@' can execute arbitrary macros when opened in spreadsheet software like Excel. Sanitization automatically prefixes an apostrophe to neutralize formula execution.

Irregular and missing columns

When XML records contain varying sets of fields, the converter detects the union of all columns across all records and fills missing values with empty strings.

How it works

  1. Parses XML nodes into records or parses CSV rows using PapaParse.
  2. Flattens hierarchical XML properties and attributes into unified tabular columns.
  3. Sanitizes formula injection prefixes when requested.
  4. Formats and streams the resulting CSV or XML purely within a client-side Web Worker.

Frequently asked questions

Can I open the resulting CSV file in Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets?

Yes. Standard comma-separated or tab-separated outputs are fully compatible with Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, LibreOffice Calc, and Apple Numbers.

Is there any risk of leaking sensitive enterprise XML files?

None. All processing runs completely inside your browser's local sandbox. No files, contents, or headers are ever uploaded to any external server.

How do I convert to TSV (Tab-Separated Values)?

Select 'Tab (\t)' in the delimiter option dropdown. The tool will automatically output tab-delimited records and name the download file with a .tsv extension.
