About this tool, examples & FAQ

Reformat SQL with configurable dialect, keyword case, and indentation without sending queries to a server.

Verified capabilities and limits of this utility
DialectsStandard SQL, PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQLite, and SQL Server
Query executionNever executed or sent to a database
ProcessingLocal Web Worker; SQL is not uploaded
Maximum input1 MB

How to use

  1. Paste a SQL statement or script into the input editor.
  2. Select the database dialect that matches vendor-specific syntax.
  3. Choose keyword casing and indentation width, then run the formatter.
  4. Review and copy the result; formatting never connects to or changes a database.

Example

Format SELECT

Input

select id from users

Sample output (illustrative)

SELECT id
FROM users

Edge cases

Dialect matters

Select the matching dialect when vendor-specific syntax is used.

Templates and placeholders

Application template syntax may not be valid SQL and can prevent reliable formatting.

Formatting is not validation

Readable output does not prove that a query is valid, safe, or efficient for a database.

How it works

  1. Tokenizes the input using the selected SQL dialect without evaluating it.
  2. Normalizes keyword casing and applies indentation around clauses and nested expressions.
  3. Returns plain SQL text from the isolated worker for copying or download.

Frequently asked questions

Does this run my query?

No. It only formats pasted text and never connects to a database.

Which SQL dialect should I choose?

Use PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQLite, or SQL Server when the query contains vendor-specific syntax; otherwise Standard SQL is a reasonable default.

Does successful formatting mean the SQL is valid?

No. Only the target database can fully validate names, types, permissions, extensions, and runtime behavior.
